Poetic Review - Desire in His Blood by Zoey Draven

A monster wants her as his bride…and he will stop at nothing to claim her.

Gemma Hara is drowning under the weight of her father’s debts. Working herself to the bone, she knows that if she doesn’t pay them off in time, the sadistic creditors will take everything: their home, their respected name, and, worst of all, her two beautiful sisters.

To save her family, Gemma agrees to do something reckless: marry a wealthy and mysterious stranger, who offers her a wicked bargain she can’t afford to refuse.

However, his bargain comes with one terrifying catch. Because her husband-to-be is a Kylorr.

One of the most fearsome alien races in the Four Quadrants, the Kylorr are beastly monsters, all muscle and menace, with powerful wings, depraved cravings, and berserker-like rages. The worst part?

They survive on blood.

Cold and cruel, Azur of House Kaalium, the High Lord of Laras, demands Gemma as his blood bride. To feed from her. To use her body in whatever way he wishes. For paying off her family’s debts, he expects her complete submission.

What neither of them predicts is how his bite doesn’t bring pain—it fills Gemma with more exquisite pleasure than she’s ever known. And as she finds her footing on a strange new planet, the one thing Gemma thought she’d never surrender might be at risk after all.

Her heart.

Too bad her new husband can’t seem to decide if he wants to break it…or keep it forever.

I don't even know where I should start
Expressing my feelings about this work of art.
Because the first book in Zoey Draven's new series,
Is definitely one of this year’s favorite reads.

I think I never liked a sci-fi romance story so much,
As the masterpiece called Desire in His Blood.
The worldbuilding, the storytelling, the pacing,
All as great as the characters and the feelings.

Apart from being a passionate, or rather scorching hot read,
A perfect amount of angst keeps you on the edge of the seat.
It is not unjustified or over the top, the decisions have reasons,
The reader can sympathize with the main couple's emotions.

Speaking of said pairing, at first glance, it may seem strange,
As the hero is an alien, with characteristics in a wide range.
Wings and horns like a demon's, pointed ears like a fae's,
Fangs like a vampire's – the combo makes you wish to be his prey.

While the heroine is a human, but there cannot be an "only",
Because she is brave and headstrong and stands up to him boldly.
Their relationship becomes so real throughout the story,
I just loved them together and I'm not even sorry.

But the side characters are also likeable and interesting,
So, I cannot wait to read more about them in the following.
There is still much to explore, get answers to questions,
This series will be a must-read for me, I don't have to mention.
